Downtown Main Street: Brick and Brunch
Downtown Alpharetta's Main Street revival — the brick storefronts, the brunch crowd at Smokejack and South Main Kitchen, the way the historic district pivoted in the 2010s from sleepy county-seat to weekend destination. The City Center fountain, the Saturday-morning farmers market. Bo doing the downtown walk, beer in hand.
Lyrics
Saturday. Call it ten-fifteen in the morning. Sun's hitting the red brick on Main. Feel that heat comin' off it? Yeah. Let's take the walk. Start down at Brooke Street Park, where the market is. Canvas tents flapping in the breeze. You can smell it from a block away. Not the exhaust from the old days. No, it's fresh-cut basil and roasted coffee beans. Moms pushing those three-wheeled strollers, dads with a dog leash wrapped tight around one hand. Everybody's heading somewhere, but nobody, nobody is in a hurry. This is the downtown walk. Got a cold pint in my hand. From the City Center fountain to the old town clock. This is the new lay of the land. It's the warm brick and the weekend brunch. Man, this is the Saturday pulse. Now the line's getting long outside of Smokejack. Been that way since they opened in 2013. That brisket smell, it hits you right in the chest, makes you stop walking. Down the block, South Main Kitchen is pouring the first mimosas. Tables on the sidewalk, silverware on white plates. You can hear it now... the sound of a hundred conversations starting at once. This is the downtown walk. Got a cold pint in my hand. From the City Center fountain to the old town clock. This is the new lay of the land. It's the warm brick and the weekend brunch. Man, this is the Saturday pulse. You find a spot, lean against a wall built in, what, 1920? The brick holds the morning heat. I remember when you could park anywhere you wanted, any time of day. It's funny. You don't miss the quiet. You just appreciate the hum. And that fountain they put in, 2014? The pump cycles on. The kids run for it. They built a current, and you just get in it. Yeah, you get in it. The walk goes on. Another block, maybe another beer. The sun gets higher. Yeah. Good day for it.
