Lyrics

I draped the blue velvet across the curved wood,
Arranged the 9 goblets as well as I could.
They catch the low lamplight, heavy and thick,
I paid off the balance at a quarter to 6.
I'm wearing a cherry-red cap on my head,
Looking at the beautiful table I set.

I cross my arms tight on a well-nourished chest,
Safe from the weather and the outside mess.
This is the plenty, the heavy cream,
I'm sitting right in the center of the scene.
But a granted wish is a heavy stone,
When you're drinking the 9th cup all alone.

Look at the semi-circle, the cups in an arc,
Keeping the shadows away from my heart.
I finally bought my way out of the rain,
Nothing is ever gonna touch me again.
I lean back my head and I polish the rim,
While the light in the hallway begins to thin.

I cross my arms tight on a well-nourished chest,
Safe from the weather and the outside mess.
This is the plenty, the heavy cream,
I'm sitting right in the center of the scene.
But a granted wish is a heavy stone,
When you're drinking the 9th cup all alone.

The brain is a radar that sweeps for a threat,
Scanning the peace for a flaw in the mesh.
If I uncross my arms, will the fortune spill?
If I'm perfectly full... why am I hungry still?

9 golden cups on the blue velvet cloth.
Safe from the rust.
Safe from the moth.
Just sitting here, arms folded tight.
Nowhere to go.
Nothing to wish for tonight.
Just the hollow.
