Little Miss Talks-Through-The-Movie
"Wait, who's that?" "What did he just say?" The whisper that's not a whisper.
Lyrics
[Intro] The velvet seats drink the light. The logos fade. A hundred strangers agree, without a word, to be quiet. To go somewhere else for two hours. For a little while. [Verse 1] And then, a sound. Not a cough. Not a rustle of a candy wrapper. A voice, pitched for a secret, but built for a room. A stage whisper from seat J-12. The film is ninety seconds old. The main character is walking in the rain. And she leans to her husband, or maybe to no one. And the sound cuts through the strings. [Chorus] "Wait, who is that?" "Is he the main guy?" "What did that sign say?" The whisper that's not a whisper. The question nobody asked. She's just thinking out loud, you see. In our quietest place. [Verse 2] The score swells to a crisis. A close-up on a face, about to break. Tears are gathering in the actor's eyes. The whole room holds its breath. And from J-12, the narration continues. "Oh, I bet he's the one who did it." A man in the row ahead shifts his weight. A small, angry sound. The quiet hum of a hundred people's patience, wearing thin. [Chorus] "Now, why is she crying?" "Did I miss something?" "Remind me what her name is." The whisper that's not a whisper. The question nobody asked. She's just making sure she's following the plot. In our quietest place. [Bridge] I wonder if she knows. That this is a church of sorts. A public dream we all agreed to share. Does she not feel the silence she keeps breaking? Or is the noise in her own head so loud She has to let some of it out? So it doesn't drown her? I don't know. I just want her to be quiet. [Outro] The lights begin to rise. Her voice rises with them. Full volume now. "Well, I didn't like the ending." "I thought it was obvious from the beginning." "And that actor, the main one? I just don't see the appeal."
