Mr. Cancel-Pile-On — In Pajamas, Two Bowls of Cereal

A thousand keystrokes. The verdict reached before the trial. The mob in slippers.

Lyrics

[Intro]

[Verse 1]
In the dim glow of a 27-inch iMac, February 17th, 2023, 11:47 PM.
Jason from accounting, still in his faded blue pajamas from Target,
Spoons the last of his second bowl of Cocoa Pebbles.
The milk turns chocolate, the spoon clinks against ceramic bought at IKEA last June.
His fingers hover over the Cherry MX Red switches, ready.

[Chorus]
A thousand keystrokes in the night,
Verdict typed before the dawn,
Mob in slippers, screen-lit fight,
The trial's over, move along.

[Verse 2]
He scrolls Twitter, sees the thread about Emily Hayes,
The influencer who misspoke on that podcast episode 142.
"Unacceptable," he types, crumbs falling on the spacebar.
Refreshes, likes pile up like his empty Red Bull cans from 7-Eleven.
His cat, Whiskers, watches from the unmade bed.

[Bridge]
But by morning, the feed moves on to a new scandal,
Jason yawns, closes the tab, the outrage spent.
Emily's mentions still burn, but he's already forgotten her name.
Just another night in the verdict factory.

[Verse 3]
The pajamas have a coffee stain from yesterday's spill,
Bowl one was at 9 PM, during the initial outrage wave.
He adds a gif of a gavel smashing, posted at 12:03 AM.
The mob swells, anonymous judges in living rooms across time zones.

[Chorus]
A thousand keystrokes in the night,
Verdict reached without a trial,
Mob in slippers, out of sight,
Apathy wins by a mile.
